The Prayer of a Drug Addict

“God, if You exist, hear my cry of despair! Come quickly and help me….my body is falling apart…my stomach churns, my muscles flop; yet with all the guts left in me, I’ll do anything in order to get my next shot…I need to feel good again! Yet, what is goodness? I don’t understand it anymore, for those who pass by shakes their heads at me, scold me or arrest me when, in desperation, I commit yet another crime. My companions are those very people who cannot help themselves or me… or those who torture me into selling drugs for them. If hell is like this, I certainly don’t want to go there… help me…please…”[The author’s recreation of the trauma of addiction that a late friend endured.]
